Year 2005, 3rd year @ RVCE
Will not be revealing the name of the person on whom the prank was played on just to make it not so obvious. Can say that he was one of our batch mates at RVCE whom we all know very well. Lets call him by the name "Fred".
It was the season of mobile phones and Fred got himself a grand new one. Fred was too much involved with his mobile and was the first one to get it in the family. Man, he was proud of his possession. He just had one problem. Since it was the only wireless communication device available at home, it used to travel with almost anyone (family members) on long distance travels even though he would be left out sometimes. He never felt it as a problem till the fateful day.
This is from what i remember
Fred, if you are reading this let me know if it requires any corrections ....:)
Fred's Dad to Fred: I am going out of station and am taking the mobile phone with me just in case
Fred to his Dad: Sure. You can take it when you leave.
Fred to all his friends (including me): Dudes, My dad is taking the mob (mobile phone) with him. Please don't send any messages (forwards/others) after today evening. Will get back in touch with with you guys soon.
Decided to test Fred's Dad (what he thinks about his son). Waited till the evening. Few of my friends were home and I decided to borrow a mobile from one of them .Posing as a Girl a series of messages were sent which got Fredy into trouble.
Me (From my friends mob): Hi Fred, How are you? Missing you a lot. How long has it been since you called up? Got a new GF is it?
Fred's Dad: Who is this. I don't remember you. Can i know your name?
There was something wrong in the reply. Why would Fred's dad reply saying he doesn't know me. Why does he want to know my name? Oops... I think Fred still has the mob with him. I call up Fred from my mobile. Fred is in a real happy mood. I Ask him about assignments, internals etc etc. Fred replies promptly. Fred also adds that his dad did not take the mobile with him. Fred didn't seem to be interested in talking. He might have been waiting for the reply to the message he sent. Didn't want to disappoint him and hung up the call.
Me (From my friends mob): Its a pity that you don't remember my name. You have forgotten me so soon.
Fred: (trying to be friendly) No, I haven't forgotten you. I just don't have your number saved in my mobile.
Me (From my friends mob): You don't have my number saved. Oh my god. This is the last thing i wanted to hear from you. It was all lovely talk when we met up last time ad now you say that you don't even remember my number. Am very sad.
Fred: (Tries to make up with some lies) My phone memory got erased recently. I don't have any of the old numbers. I even end up asking my friends who they are.
Me (From my friends mob): But still you could forget any number in this world but not mine. Don't you remember "What we did last summer" ? (Was damn sure he wouldn't identify this as a movie title)
Fred: (A bit freaked up) I don't know who you are. Please tell me your name.
Me (From my friends mob): I think you will know my name when you see me. Will be coming to your house this weekend to meet your parents. Hope its OK with you.
Fred doesn't reply back. He is totally freaked up. He doesn't know who the hell is going to come to his house this weekend. Fred knows whom to call up for help. He calls up his uncle (Lawyer by profession) to explain the situation. Freds uncle asks him to calm down. He consoles him saying there is nothing to worry. He would call her up and let you know.
Freds uncle calls up on my friends mob. He is angry and furious. My friend reacts calmly and states that his mobile was being used by a few people and he hadn't been at home.
We meet up Fred at college the next day. Fred is totally tensed and unveils the situation to us. We listen to him patiently till he is finished. We come up with multiple solutions to tackle the problem and finalize on the best solution for the problem. We reveal the plot to Fred in the evening before he took any corrective action.... Fred is surprised and shocked. Freds hopes of meeting up someone has come crashing down.
Fred doesn't reply to messages from unknown numbers anymore unless the person has identified him/herself.
No prizes for guessing the person.
Note: Characters mentioned in the post are not fictious Any resemblance to people living/unmarried/engaged/married is purely intentional
