Why not to buy a cheap Blue tooth Headset

The urge to get the best deal has sometimes ended with catastrophic results for me and this one is a classical example. Bluetooth headset/earpiece for 700 bucks, quite tempting hmm. I gave in to the temptation and bough my self a blue tooth mono headset from "Enter". Even though never heard of the company before i decided to try mu luck. Forgot that luck has always locked horns at every stage of my life and so did it turn out to be again.

Didn't want to get a reply from the company saying RTFM (Read The Friendly Manual). So went through the entire manual before i started off with the operations on the headset. The manual being pretty simple did not take up much time. It clearly stated to put it on charge before use for about 2 hours with different combination of LED lighting indicating the charging states. to my surprise i found that that the charging LED went off after 10 minutes.Being optimistic i thought the battery might have already being charged and hence took less time for getting charged completely.

Was able to connect the headset to my phone after a bit of struggle, and this is when the problems started creeping up. The headset would not play anything for more than 5 seconds. No matter what i tried and what logic i applied the headset would not diverge from its behaviour. i seriously mistook this to be a problem with my mobile since had never used it with any blue tooth audio devices before. But at the end, the inner gut feeling that the headset is not working took over. Decided to get it to their service center @ Bangalore and get the issues resolved. The service center guys were helpful enough to hand me another piece after 3 visits (First visit: They are damn sure that it's a problem at my end with the usage, Second visit: The decide to have a look at the problem by trying it out, Third visit: They take pity on me and hand me another one). Soon after the second visit i tried the mailing address provided on the website to post in my problems. Oops, no reply. Think the person whose mail id was provided has been fired.

The replacement headset was able to connect to the phone and all issue seemed to get resolved. but the audio audio quality was becoming a very concerning issue. Exponential increase in noise level with distance from the source was eminent. The noise easily overpowered everything else when moved a few meter away from the source.

The specification for the mono headset/earpiece as provided by Enter

Bluetooth version V2.0 + EDR specifications, Class II
Bluetooth headset & Hands-free profiles
Operating Range: Up to 30 feet (10 meters)
Frequency: 2.40 ~ 2.48 GHz
Talk Time: Up to 4 hours*
Standby Time: Up to 120 hours*
Charging Time: About 1 hour
Battery Type: Rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery
Dimensions (L * W * T): 42*18*11 mm
Weight: 9g (excluding accessories)
Compatible with various Bluetooth enabled devices such as mobile phone, PDAs and Laptops
Noise suppression, echo elimination and duplex sound for crystal clear quality.

What i found out

Bluetooth version seems to be compatible since i have a Bluetooth 2.0 profile on my mobile
Talk time is half of what the specifications says (2 hours)
Charging time of about 1 hour is very much true
Headset starts generating noise at about 3 feet. noise increases with distance from the source
By the time you are 30 feet away from the source you wouldn't find a connection.

Overall: Not worth the effort involved and the money.

I too ended up buying the crappy piece of hardware. Don't really know if their hardware goes through a quality check at all.
